Last night (July 22) I attended a free screening of the movie Waiting for Superman at the Capri Theatre in North Minneapolis. The screening was organized by Bonnie McGrath, a board member of KIPP: Stand Academy, a chartered school in Minneapolis. Laniaree Martin, a KIPPster entering the 8th grade, joined me for this photo:
I enjoyed talking with parents and families about the origins of chartering. Many were attending the screening out of curiosity because their friends invited them. I love that! The more conversation we have about opportunities to improve our public education system, the better.
KIPP: Stand Academy is a college-prep middle school of about 200 students located in downtown Minneapolis that provides a longer school day. They are taking applications for a few more students for the 2012-2013 school year.
