Tēnā koe Blog Readers: Charter School Update from Minister of Education, New Zealand

I was pleased to receive this update letter from the Hon. Hekia Parata, Minister of Education in New Zealand. New Zealand’s first five “Partnership Schools” (their term for chartered schools) opened to students at the start of 2014, and a second round of applications to open more schools closed this March. “The five schools that have opened are establishing strongly, and they enjoy the support of their local communities,” says Minister Parata. They have established a Partnership Schools Authorisation Board, headed by Catherine Isaac. I look forward to serving as a resource for our friends in New Zealand as they develop a new charter schools sector.
